Helsinki (6/8) – A day out at Pihlajasaari Island

It was a very special day for our Little Rascals – we spent a whole day playing at the beach on Pihlajasaari Island. And playing on a beach is what Rascals like the most!

It was a very special day for me as well. I met with my dearest and long-not-seen friend who happens to live in Helsinki.

The day was special and the place definitely is special! It’s considered by Finns one of the most beautiful spots in Helsinki. With its nice beaches and rocky area, perfect for picnic and sunbathing. And with it’s amazing view at the big ferries passing by just next to the island. They go so close that you can feel the ground trembling!

There are two ferry lines to get to the island – one leaves from Merisatama behind the cafe Carousel and another one from Ruoholahti (the quay is close to the metro station). We chose the second option and the tickets costed 6€ there and back (children went for free, oh how I love Helsinki!)

We played a lot in the sand, we walked a bit (only a bit since my friend was in a very very VERY advanced pregnancy), we ate ice creams in a beautiful cafe on the island. And me and S even got completely wet in a cold Baltic water when he accidentally slid down to the sea from one wet and slippery stone. And I took the same way when rescuing him ;-)

some time later he would slide from this stone straight into the sea… and I would follow :)
